What are Ball Valves?
Ball valves are fittings that are used to shut off and regulate the flow of liquids and gases in piping systems. They consist of a body containing a ball that is moved by turning the hand lever or the gear handwheel inside the body. When the ball is in a position that allows the flow, the medium flows through the valve, and when it is in a position that blocks the flow, the medium is stopped.
The ball itself is usually made of stainless steel or coated steel. The ball seals are usually made of reinforced PTFE and are used to seal the flow. Depending on the application and area of use, the valves can be made of different materials, including brass, steel or plastic.
The use of ball valves offers several advantages, including very good flow rates, absolute tightness, easy handling, maintenance and repair as well as high resistance to wear and corrosion. They are also cost-effective and have a long service life.
