Double block and bleed with test valve
Our trunnion-mounted ball valves have the “double block and bleed” function, which is characterized by two independent seals. This means that the ball valve acts as a double shut-off, offering maximum safety. There is a test valve between the two seals, which makes it possible to safely check and release the pressure in the isolated area. This function ensures that potential leaks can be detected at an early stage - ideal for reliable leak testing and maximum operational safety.

In the district heating supply, there are basically a variety of valve types that are designed for different areas of application. In addition to ball valves, other types such as butterfly valves, valves, gate valves and metal-seated plug valves are also used:

  • Butterfly valves offer a space-saving solution and are particularly suitable for applications with limited installation space. However, they cause increased flow resistance due to the disc in the passage, which leads to poorer flow values and can impair energy efficiency. In addition, they do not close as reliably, which can lead to possible leaks.
  • Valves allow precise control of the flow, but are more energy-intensive due to the increased resistance and lower flow values. They also require regular maintenance as they are prone to wear and tear.
  • Gate valves offer good tightness and are often used in applications with slow opening and closing functions, especially in larger nominal sizes. However, they can leak during operation due to contamination, which can affect their reliability.
  • Metal-seated plug valves are characterized by their high temperature and pressure resistance and are also available in large nominal sizes. They offer good tightness, but are more expensive and require more maintenance, which increases operating costs.

Ball valves, on the other hand, offer an unbeatable combination of tightness, efficiency and maintenance-free operation, making them the preferred choice for district heating systems.
